Boat Restoration with Andy Miller and TotalBoat

This spring, we had the incredible opportunity to welcome boat repair wizard Andy Miller from the Boatworks Today YouTube channel to the TotalBoat Shop. Andy, a master in the art of boat restoration, brought his expertise to bear on our 1970 Seacraft center console, guiding us through some essential structural repairs.

Along the way, he shared invaluable tips and tricks, demonstrating the power of TotalBoat products in the process. We captured the entire project and will be providing you with several video guides meant to help you to tackle these complex repairs with confidence.

Check out a few of the helpful videos already released from Andy’s visit on the TotalBoat YouTube channel.

In our Gelcoat Color Matching video, Andy explains the intricacies of nailing your Gelcoat color to match your hull. It’s likely your hull is faded by sun and salt and isn’t a bright factory white or color any longer, which means your Gelcoat needs to be toned down to match.  Check out the way Andy mixes in tiny amounts of our Pigment Dispersion Paste to get an exact match of an older off-white. Using bits of black, yellow, and brown pigment with our White Gelcoat, he shows us how to get tiny shifts in color that make all the difference when patching little areas.

Andy tackles some important issues with a weak area on the deck of the SeaCraft in this video. He uses unidirectional fiberglass, thickened Traditional 5:1 Epoxy Resin and TotalFair to add longitudinal strength to a tough area under the gunwale.  Andy’s technique can be applied to several areas of any boat with structural integrity issues.  It’s all about how you access these repair spots. Luckily this was easy to access and the repair really stiffened up an area that was in dire need of repair.

Two more great videos also launched recently going over how to tackle two common issues facing boat owners: Repairing crazing and stress cracks. Both require vigilant preparation and thorough application processes. Andy does a great job of going over the steps required to repair these areas in a way that ensures that the cracks and crazing won’t reappear in the near future.

Andy Miller’s Boatworks Today channel has a lot more great tips for fiberglass boat repair. Andy has an active Patreon group where he provides tips and custom solutions for every boat owner on a personal level.  You can consult with Andy on your own projects and know you’ll get great results with Andy’s advice and TotalBoat products and support.  We’re here to help!
