Now you can tune into the weekly pow wow we call Shop Night! Employees pour into the TotalBoat Workshop after 5pm each Wednesday for a few beers over boats and ideas, marine and home or yard projects and plenty of shop talk. With a few major restorations planned for the winter, there will be plenty to see on the shop cam and lots to catch up with here on the Workshop blog.
Lorelei works in purchasing here at TB HQ and she is putting her Dad to work teaching her the ways of wooden boat restoration. Their 1957 Century Resorter powerboat is a family heirloom and a thing of beauty. It’s been in the family since Joe, Lorelei’s dad, and his father found it rotting in a backyard when Joe was only 16 years old. Father and son restored the boat as only the second owner and then got busy boating. But 2 different hurricanes in the 80s destroyed the boat – twice – making this its third restoration. So Joe knows this boat very well and he is not afraid to go for this third restoration.
The boat ran as recently as a few years ago, but needs lots of “body” work to get going again. With a full overhaul planned, this beauty will again shine like new, with new varnished topsides, new deck inside, lots of paint and plenty of chrome polish & some powder coating. Lorelei’s dad is no novice, and the father/ daughter duo is ready to do it again for the Shop Cam and for the video we will be making from the whole event.
We hope you will tune into the Live ShopCam on Wednesday nights at 5:30 pm EST for a live look at the progress. Until then, we will keep posting as we go, updating you as the project unfolds.
