An In Depth Review of Thixo by Fish Bump TV

When it comes to epoxy application, ease of use, cleanliness, and precision can make all the difference. That’s exactly what Joe Buskins from Fish Bump TV set out to test in his latest video, 'Is this the easiest and cleanest DIY epoxy system ever? Thixo!' In this in-depth review, Joe takes a hands-on approach to TotalBoat’s Thixo epoxy system, showcasing its versatility for various applications—from boat and RV repairs to home improvement projects.

Thixo stands out because of its innovative packaging and application method. Unlike traditional epoxy systems that require careful mixing, Thixo comes in a convenient two-part cartridge, much like a standard caulking tube. The built-in mixing tip ensures that the epoxy is automatically blended as it dispenses, eliminating the need for separate mixing cups and reducing waste. As Joe demonstrates, this setup makes it ideal for small, precise applications where traditional epoxy might be cumbersome.

Joe walks through the different variations of Thixo, including the standard Thixo Thickened Epoxy, Thixo Flex for high-movement applications, and Thixo Fast Cure for quick repairs. He also points out the importance of running a few inches of material through the tip before application to ensure proper mixing of the two components.

Putting Thixo to the test, Joe constructs a demonstration piece to show how well it bonds and cures. He applies Thixo in a zigzag pattern, ensuring good coverage and squeeze-out to confirm strong adhesion. His results highlight how well Thixo holds onto surfaces, its ability to create smooth, strong fillets, and the convenience of switching between different formulations for specific needs.

One of the standout features Joe appreciates is that Thixo is blush-free, meaning it doesn’t produce amine blush—a common issue with some epoxies that require extra sanding or washing before overcoating. He also notes that Thixo performs best in temperatures above 55-60°F and shares a useful tip: if working in colder conditions, lightly warming the cartridge with a heat gun can improve flow and ease of application.

Joe also discusses the importance of using a high-ratio caulking gun for dispensing Thixo, as its thicker consistency can be tough on lower-powered guns. He demonstrates how easy it is to swap out mixing tips, leaving the old one attached when storing the tube to keep the epoxy fresh. Whether for quick repairs, boat maintenance, or DIY projects, he emphasizes that Thixo provides a hassle-free solution with professional results.

For those looking for a reliable, mess-free epoxy solution, Joe’s review makes it clear—Thixo is a game-changer. Whether you’re a seasoned builder or a first-time DIYer, this system eliminates the guesswork while delivering strong, durable bonds. Ready to try it out for yourself? Head over to TotalBoat and grab a tube of Thixo to see just how easy epoxy work can be!

Love the Thixo video! I tried to order the wood tint epoxy from Total Boat, but they no longer carry it. Any suggestions? I am repairing cedar / fiberglass and cedar / canvas canoes.
