TotalBoat Outdrive AF Aerosol Spray has a unique, copper-free formula that won’t cause galvanic corrosion, and coats the surface to prevent crevice corrosion on underwater metal parts, such as propellers, bow thruster props, through-hulls, trim stabs, struts, and shafts. Very important: Do not paint your zincs and other sacrificial anodes, which serve to prevent galvanic corrosion from destroying underwater metal parts.
High-performance, full-season barnacle barrier for props and underwater metals
This easy-to-use spray paint contains zinc oxide, which serves as a reliable barnacle barrier for boats that are used frequently. Props, trim tabs, and other underwater metal parts coated with Outdrive AF Aerosol Spray will self-clean in service. Apply at least 2 coats, waiting 3-12 hours between coats, depending on temperature. The effectiveness and durability of Outdrive AF Aerosol will be greater the more coats you apply.
An epoxy primer makes TotalBoat Outdrive AF Prop Spray more effective
Priming reduces surface porosity and gives this protective paint a solid surface to adhere to, so it sticks better and lasts longer. Epoxy primer is recommended because it provides superior adhesion and corrosion protection. For best results, prep bare aluminum surfaces with TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Etch Wash, then prime with TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat. For all other underwater metals, prime with TotalBoat TotalProtect Epoxy Barrier Coat and Primer before applying TotalBoat Outdrive AF Aerosol.

What applications is TotalBoat Outdrive AF Antifouling Barnacle Barrier Spray most appropriate for?
Use this protective coating on aluminum and other underwater metals like bronze, brass, stainless steel, cast iron, galvanized steel, and more. It can be used on propellers, keels, drives, through-hulls, trim tabs, bow thruster props, struts, and shafts for full-season corrosion protection in saltwater and freshwater. -
Do I need to prime bare metals before applying this antifouling coating?
Epoxy primer is recommended for superior adhesion and corrosion protection properties. For best results, prep bare aluminum surfaces with TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Etch Wash, then prime with TotalBoat Aluminum Boat Barrier Coat. For other underwater metals with no existing coatings, prime with TotalBoat TotalProtect Epoxy Barrier Coat and Primer before applying TotalBoat Outdrive AF Spray. -
Can this paint be applied over existing paint?
Previous paint in poor condition should be removed and the substrate primed. Outdrive AF spray may be applied over existing paint in good condition. You’ll need to sand existing paint and wipe down. -
How do I apply Outdrive AF Spray?
Shake the can vigorously for at least one minute after the mixing ball begins to rattle. Hold the can 10-12 inches from the surface. Depress the nozzle and spray with smooth, even strokes. When finished spraying, clear the spray valve by turning the can upside-down and spraying until no more paint comes out. -
How many coats of Outdrive AF Spray should I apply?
We recommend 2 or more coats. Paint effectiveness and longevity are directly dependent on the number of coats applied. -
How much coverage will I get from one can of Outdrive paint?
15 sq. ft. at proper application thickness; one can per outdrive, with 2-3 coats. -
How long does this paint take to dry?
Dry time to over coat ranges from 3 hours at 90°F to 12 hours at 40°F. The dry time to launch is dependent on temperature – 8 hours at 90°F, 16 hours at 70°F, and 24 hours at 40°F. Paint now, launch later; there is no maximum launch time.
