Deep Pour Epoxy Resin turns ordinary things into extraordinary conversation pieces
TotalBoat ThickSet is a deep pour epoxy system great for custom works of art on bar tops, counter tops, table tops, kitchen islands, kitchen counters, and bistro tables. Use this clear casting resin to make paperweights, lamp bases, chess sets, sculptures, jewelry — whatever you like!
Just measure, mix, and pour!
TotalBoat ThickSet makes it easy to get great results — even if you’ve never used epoxy before. Just measure carefully, stir thoroughly, and pour slowly onto your prepared surface or into your prepared mold. The key is step pouring with multiple layers. This means that when the previous layer has cooled but is soft enough to indent with your fingernail, pour the next layer directly on top.
- Deep-pour resin is the best way to pour thicker layers of epoxy. Pour single layers up to 1/2" for larger pours and up to 2" for smaller pours. Water-clear, high-gloss, low-viscosity.
- Self-leveling epoxy resin cures to a liquid glass-like finish to showcase embedded objects on bar tops and table tops, and hard as stone to protect from scratches and scuffs.
- Long working time gives you more time to play and create — especially when covering larger surfaces.
- A simple 1:1 resin and hardener mix ratio makes it easy for beginners to get great results.
- Resistant to heat, scratches, and stains, and features UV protection to prevent yellowing and discoloration.
- Low-VOC, low-odor formula is ideal for workshop, garage & indoor use.
- Once cured, the durable epoxy surface is BPA-free and non-toxic, making it safer for tables that come into contact with food.
- Take your art to the next level on wood, glass, ceramic, plastic, stone, concrete, and many other surfaces. Have fun, experiment, and pour your heart out!
- Sizes available for every size project – 2 quart, 1 gallon, 2 gallon, and 4 gallon.

Should I use TotalBoat ThickSet or Fathom epoxy for my project?
TotalBoat ThickSet and Fathom epoxies are crystal clear resin systems that can be poured deeper than traditional epoxy, and both are ideal for castings, river tables, and slab pours, but the main question is – how deep do you want to go? If it’s really deep, you want Fathom because you can pour it in thicker single layers than ThickSet. The table below contains more information to help you decide which formula is right for your project.

TECHNICAL DATA
- Application Temperature/RH: 65°F-75°F, relative humidity 0-60%. Warm conditions are critical for success.
- IMPORTANT! Environmental conditions are extremely important to the quality of the cure, and to achieving the best clarity and surface finish. Depending on the overall mass of epoxy being poured at a single time, the depth that it is poured, and the ambient temperature, excessive heat may build up from the reaction, causing potential yellowing, cracks, or other shrinkage. Helping to dissipate the heat may help promote the best results. For the epoxy to cure fully, the ambient temperature must be between 65°F and 80°F. When pouring for larger projects, such as slabs or tables, do not exceed a pour depth of 1/2″ to prevent yellowing or excessive heat from the cure.
- Seal Coat Application: Brush. When applying to wood or porous surfaces, be sure to apply a very thin skim coat of epoxy to seal the surface, and allow it to cure before applying more epoxy.
- Maximum Pour Depth per Layer (Flood Coat Application): 1/2" for river pours, and slab pours; 2" for smaller castings using less than 10 oz. of epoxy. Pour on and spread with an epoxy spreader.
- Pot Life @ 77°F: 10 minutes
- Working Time @ 77°F: 30 minutes, depending on mixing mass, material temperature, ambient temperature, mixing time, mixing speed, application speed, & casting or coating thickness.
- Gel Time @ 77°F: 70 minutes
- Full Cure Time: 3-5 days
- Personal safety: Work in a well-ventilated area. Wear gloves, eye protection, face protection, and clothing protection.
- Shelf Life: At least one year after date of manufacture, if stored properly
- Kit Includes: Resin (Part A) and Hardener (Part B)
- Cured Color & Finish: Clear, High Gloss
- Mix Ratio by Volume: 1A:1B (1 part epoxy resin to 1 part hardener)
- UV-Resistant: Yes
- Heat Resistance:Do not place items hotter than 122°F on the cured surface.
- Thinner: Do not thin this product
- Surface Prep Solvent: Denatured alcohol or acetone (only for use on compatible substrates)
- Cleanup: Part A – EPOXY RESIN: Denatured alcohol, acetone, vinegar
- Cleanup: Part B – HARDENER: Warm, fresh water and a mild soap, or denatured alcohol

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
What applications is TotalBoat Thickset Epoxy most appropriate for?
ThickSet Epoxy is ideal for deep pour casting and molding projects. It also creates a deep, clear finish on bar tops, tabletops, and countertops embedded with your favorite objects and photos. Apply to properly prepared wood, metal, stone, ceramic, and concrete surfaces. -
Should I Use TotalBoat ThickSet or TableTop Epoxy?
Both of these epoxies give you beautiful results for crystal-clear, liquid glass like coating, casting, embedding, or encapsulating projects. However, TotalBoat TableTop Epoxy is more of a ‘coating’ epoxy, and and TotalBoat ThickSet can both cast and coat for deeper pours.
ThickSet requires fewer pours to achieve a final thickness of 1/2″ and gives a longer working time, while Table Top epoxy resin has a faster cure time for coating and is meant for shallow-depth embedding projects. -
Can I thin ThickSet Deep Pour Epoxy?
No, you should not thin epoxy, as this will negatively affect cure and characteristics. -
Does ThickSet dry clear?
Yes, it dries to a liquid glass-like clear finish. However, it can be tinted with epoxy-safe coloring agents, like Mica Powder, if desired. -
Is this clear casting resin food safe?
Yes. The cured epoxy surface is BPA-free, making it safer for objects coming into contact with food. -
What else should I know before using this deep pour epoxy?
Environmental conditions are important to the quality of the cure, and to achieve the best clarity and surface finish. For the epoxy to cure fully, the ambient temperature must be between 65°F and 75°F. When pouring for larger projects, such as slabs or tables, do not exceed a pour depth of ½” to 1″ to prevent yellowing or excessive heat from the cure. Step pouring with multiple layers will achieve the best results.
While this resin offers UV resistance, extended outdoor use can still eventually degrade and discolor the epoxy. For maximum protection, we recommend coating with a UV-resistant finish (like clear varnish). -
Once mixed, how long is the working time?
The working time for ThickSet Epoxy is 30 minutes at 77°F, depending on mixing mass, material temperature, ambient temperature, mixing time, mixing speed, application speed, and casting or coating thickness. -
How long does it take to cure?
The tack-free time is 4-8 hours for 1/2″ pours at 77°F, and it will be fully cured after 3-5 days at 77°F. -
Can I place hot items on it once the clear casting epoxy is cured? How heat resistant is it?
We recommend you avoid placing items hotter than 122°F on the cured surface. This is common to most room temperature-cured epoxy systems. -
What is the shelf life of ThickSet, once opened?
If stored in proper conditions, resin & hardener should last to 6 months to 1 year after opening. Store at 60-90°F, in a dry place. Ensure containers are thoroughly sealed directly after use. Store products on a raised surface off the floor during cold weather, and avoid storing near outside walls or doors
