Platinum-Cure Pourable Mold Making Silicone Rubber
Platinum-Cure Pourable Mold Making Silicone Rubber
Platinum-cure silicone (or ‘addition’ cure silicone) is a two-component, flexible mold or casting compound with high tear strength. This high-quality silicone rubber exhibits extremely low shrinkage and high physical properties, and is recommended as a mold material for casting epoxy, polyurethane, or polyester resins, wax, and a wide variety of other casting materials.
Our liquid silicone selection includes Smooth-On Dragon Skin and Smooth-On Smooth-Sil 945. Both of these 2-part pourable silicone compounds are used for a variety of applications that range from creating skin effects and other movie special effects to creating production molds for casting a variety of materials, including epoxy resins such as TotalBoat High Performance Epoxy and TotalBoat Thickset deep casting resin.
Each silicone rubber type has its own special properties, but both are preferred because you don’t need a special scale to measure the simple 1:1 mix ratio by weight or volume, and you don’t have to buy expensive degassing equipment to remove bubbles.
To determine how much material you’ll need, see Smooth-on’s Mold Making and Casting Calculators.
Dragon Skin 20
Dragon Skin™ translucent, high-performance platinum-cure silicone rubbers are very strong and stretchy.
- Simple 1A:1B mix ratio by weight or volume – no scale required.
- Strong and stretchy when cured.
- High tear strength – can be stretched many times its original size without tearing.
- After being stretched, rebounds to its original form without distortion.
- Easy to tint.
- Cast materials such as resins (epoxy, urethane, or polyester), wax, plasters, or concrete into Dragon Skin silicone rubber.
- Cures at room temperature, with minimal shrinkage.
- No release agent needed.
- Size: Dragon Skin 20 is available in a 2 lb. Unit.
Smooth-Sil 945
Versatile Smooth-Sil™ platinum-cure silicones can be used to make production molds of any configuration, small or large. They exhibit good chemical, heat, and abrasion resistance.
